Well, since when I (Scott) created this thing for Katy and me, I have done nothing with it. Seemed an awful waste, so I thought maybe I should begin doing something constructive on it. So how about tonight, I just give a life update?
Katy is now 7 months into her pregnancy and apparently our little guy is growing at a good clip, I am told. She has been very healthy, for the most part, and is in good spirits. She has some very specific food needs, if you will. Each Tuesday night it's Qdoba (double points night on the card, don't ya know!) and then each Sunday after church it's Gandolfo's. Now THAT is some good food right there and the best cheesecake I've had since Neko's in New York back in 1995. Last Saturday, 1/19, we took advantage of yet another great interest-free financing offer from Nebraska Furniture Mart. This allowed us to pick out some good furniture for the baby that will hopefully last his lifetime and not get taken to the cleaners doing it. We should have the furniture by the end of February, a full month ahead of schedule, so that's good.
In keeping with that, I have just begun finishing a room in the basement to be a third bedroom. We were able to take advantage of some great sales at Menard's before the end of 2007 and so we have a little more than half of what we need to finish the room with. We've got carpet, pad, furring strips, insulation for the ceiling and the cement block walls, the vapor barrier and...I think that's it. We still need insulation for the framed wall, ceiling tiles, drywall, drywall screws, paint, a baseboard solution and a door. For now, though, I just need to get some semblance of a room begun. Furring strips are now on two of the three walls I need them on, thanks to the arrival in stock of a needed hammer drill two weeks ago. I had to wait a bit to begin this project as I wanted to save the money on the drill and then I had to work. So now I'm really behind the 8-ball!
Katy is massively excited. OK, so not so much yet, but I'm sure once the room looks like a real room, she'll be massively excited! I know Claire will be happy once it's ready, too, because this will mean she has a nice room to stay in once the baby is here. :) Claire is doing well down in KC. Either that or she's good at hiding happiness. :) We loved having her here for Thanksgiving and for a few days after Christmas while mom and dad were here. Hopefully my job situation will be resolved soon so we have the necessary funds to get her up here more consistently. It's been a rough go.
On that front, I have some good leads on a job coming up. I have lunch with a recruiter for ASCIT tomorrow and am supposed to hear Monday to set up an interview for Pacific Life. I'm sure God has had me waiting this long for a reason, but it sure isn't clear yet! :) I have been working through Aureus for a company since the week before Christmas, and that contract runs out end of February. Though the pay has been very poor, at least it's enabled us to keep some order to our budget and stay more in the black than before. :)
That's it for today, Thursday the 24th, but back soon with more.
